The two sides wrapped up their final training sessions at Kishore Bharati Krirangan stadium on Wednesday, October 7, ahead of Thursday's opening friendly. It will be the first time India's women's national team has played an international match in Kolkata.
Footage shows players from both teams running through drills, passing exercises and ball work on the pitch under the blazing sun, putting in their final preparations before the clash.
India, ranked 69th in the world, face a Russian side sitting 27th. The visitors have won both previous meetings without conceding a goal, thrashing India 8-0 in 2021 before claiming a 2-0 victory in 2025.
But India's young squad, with an average age of just 23, will be hoping to turn the tables on home soil.
Head coach Crispin Chettri has been putting his players through their paces in Kolkata since September 18. His side arrive as six-time South Asian champions after lifting the SAFF Women's Championship trophy in June.
Russia, meanwhile, have had little time to settle. Head coach Yuri Krasnozhan and his squad landed in Kolkata on Tuesday evening, leaving them just one full day to train before kick-off.
Krasnozhan acknowledged the short preparation time and the unfamiliar conditions, with the visitors adjusting to Kolkata's heat after travelling from a much cooler Russia.
Defender Veronika Kuropatkina revealed that the visitors had singled out two Indian players during their pre-match analysis and were expecting a difficult contest despite their superior ranking.
"We had a team meeting and watched two of your best players, numbers 10 and 16. Your striker is very tall and physically strong, but I heard she'll miss tomorrow. That's a shame, because we wanted to compete against her. The whole Indian team is good, though, and I know it will be a very hard game," Kuropatkina said.
India will be without several players because of club commitments, including footballers involved with East Bengal and the AFC Women's Champions League.
The two matches, scheduled for October 8 and 11, will kick off at 18:00 local time, with free entry for supporters."

<media:keywords>ruptly</media:keywords>
'Govt is responsible!' - Israeli families snub state event for alternative October 7 memorial as Netanyahu faces security scrutiny ahead of polls

'Govt is responsible!' - Israeli families snub state event for alternative October 7 memorial as Netanyahu faces security scrutiny ahead of polls

"Families and loved ones of those killed in the October 7 attack gathered at Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park on Wednesday for a memorial marking three years since the attack.
Footage shows attendees embracing, holding photographs of victims and watching musical performances, with some visibly emotional.
Attendee Elad questioned the government's responsibility for the security failures that allowed the attacks to happen.
"I think the government is the authority that is responsible for managing the entire system, which is called Israel. I don't think the army or the police have the whole responsibility," Elad said.
His frustration also extended to Israel's looming election and the prospect of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remaining in power.
"I'm afraid we are going to see Bibi Netanyahu in the Prime Minister's chair again, and that's it, we gotta live with it, but this is the truth. This is what I see on the social networks, but I hope I'm wrong," he added.
Avi Shamriz, whose son Alon escaped Hamas captivity only to be mistakenly killed by Israeli soldiers in Gaza, said the ceremony should rise above Israel's political divisions.
"We are proud of our son, who decided to put together this ceremony. Yonatan Shamriz is organising this ceremony. This is a ceremony that needs to unite the entire people of Israel, without exception. There is no right, no left; there is only bereavement, and we want to respect everyone's families," he said.
The ceremony was organised by families who lost their loved ones during the October 7 attack and held separately from Israel's official state commemorations at Mount Herzl on Monday.
The anniversary falls less than three weeks before Israel's October 27 parliamentary election, the first since the attack. Netanyahu faces a strong challenge from former military chief Gadi Eisenkot, with recent polls showing neither the prime minister's bloc nor his opponents assured of the 61 seats needed for a Knesset majority.
About 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage in the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
Israel responded by launching its military offensive in Gaza. More than 74,000 Palestinians have since been killed, according to Gaza's Health Ministry."

<media:keywords>ruptly</media:keywords>
Lalish comes ALIVE! - Thousands of Yazidis fill sacred temple with prayer, music and dance for Jama Festival

Lalish comes ALIVE! - Thousands of Yazidis fill sacred temple with prayer, music and dance for Jama Festival

"Thousands of Yazidis gathered at Lalish Temple in Iraq's Kurdistan Region for Jama, one of the most important festivals in the Yazidi faith.

Footage filmed on Wednesday shows worshippers taking part in religious rituals at the temple, while others sing and dance in traditional dress as families and pilgrims fill the sacred site.

One of the attendees said the week-long gathering draws Yazidis from Iraq and communities across the world.

"This is one of the major holidays in the Yazidi faith, and its ceremonies are held at Lalish Temple over seven days. The festival brings together Yazidis from all over the world, including Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Germany, Europe, Canada and Australia, as well as Yazidis from Armenia, Georgia and Russia," he said.

For Leila Zebari, who travelled from the Netherlands, the festival was also her first visit to Lalish.

"The place is special because of its beautiful nature, and the festive atmosphere brought back memories of celebrations from the past. It is a special and beautiful day for me, and I wish everyone happiness and peace," she said.

The gathering is centred on Lalish, the holiest site in the Yazidi faith and home to the tomb of Sheikh Adi, a central religious figure. Jama brings worshippers together for days of prayer, processions, music and other ceremonies.

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi also congratulated Yazidis in Iraq and abroad on Tuesday, wishing the community security, stability and prosperity.

Jama, also known as the Feast of the Assembly, is held over seven days at Lalish each October, drawing pilgrims from across Iraq and the Yazidi diaspora."

<media:keywords>ruptly</media:keywords>
No backing down! - Amsterdam police disperse October 7 pro-Palestinian demonstration after disorder fears

No backing down! - Amsterdam police disperse October 7 pro-Palestinian demonstration after disorder fears

"Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched through central Amsterdam on Wednesday to protest Israel's actions in Gaza on the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks.
Footage shows protesters waving Palestinian flags and holding banners before marching through the city, with some demonstrators taken away by officers. Smoke flares are later lit before police push protesters back.
"We're here today to show support for the Palestinian people that have been going through the most horrendous crimes against humanity for the past three years, and to remind everyone and the Dutch government that they are still being complicit in the genocide and in the illegal occupation," said a protester.
"We want them to divest, we want them to sanction, and have no political or diplomatic or any business ties when it comes to Israel," she added.
Another protester pledged that demonstrations 'will not stop' until 'the occupation ends.'
The march derailed from its planned route towards Waterlooplein, where police redirected protesters to Stoperaplein. Mayor Femke Halsema later ordered the demonstration to end, citing fears of public disorder, before riot officers cleared the square.
Similar pro-Palestinian demonstrations were held across Europe on Wednesday as protesters marked the October 7 anniversary.
The October 7 attacks left around 1,200 people dead in Israel and 251 taken hostage, triggering the war in Gaza, where more than 74,000 Palestinians have since died, according to Gaza's Health Ministry."

<media:keywords>ruptly</media:keywords>
Quito under ICE! - Severe hailstorm covers the streets as heavy machinery is deployed to tackle the emergency

Quito under ICE! - Severe hailstorm covers the streets as heavy machinery is deployed to tackle the emergency

"The Quito Public Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sanitation Company (Epmaps) deployed around 45 technicians and workers to deal with the emergencies caused by a severe hailstorm that on Wednesday blanketed several streets of the Ecuadorian capital white.
Footage filmed on 7 October shows emergency teams using heavy machinery to remove accumulated hail at the Atahualpa Avenue underpass, in northern Quito, where approximately 350 cubic metres of ice had built up, forming a layer nearly 60 centimetres thick.
At this site, the emergency teams also attended to a vehicle that was trapped by the accumulation of hail and was later removed by a recovery truck, according to Daniel Arellano, a member of the Security and Risk Management Unit.
The Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) deployed more than 137 officials at three points in the city to manage road closures, diversions and coordinate the clearing of the affected roads.
"Road closures and diversions have been managed where necessary, and coordination has been carried out with the municipal corporation to deal with this emergency, both for the removal of ice and the reopening of the other lanes," said Marco Pinto, a member of the Metropolitan Transit Agency.
According to the Quito Fire Brigade, by 18:30 on Wednesday at least 18 emergencies related to the precipitation had been dealt with.
The authorities are forecasting further rain and storms for Thursday 8 October, especially in the afternoon."

<media:keywords>ruptly</media:keywords>
Funerary treasure in Peru - Tomb of a child from the Mochica culture unearthed with 32 vessels as offerings

Funerary treasure in Peru - Tomb of a child from the Mochica culture unearthed with 32 vessels as offerings

"Archaeologists from the National University of Trujillo discovered, in the Huacas de Moche complex in the La Libertad region on Peru's northern coast, the tomb of a possible child from the Mochica culture, buried with around 32 vessels as offerings.
Footage filmed on Wednesday shows a team working on site to unearth the skeletal remains as well as various vessels.
The burial is on the Uhle Platform, a funerary area next to the Huaca de la Luna, one of the great adobe temples erected by this civilisation on Peru's northern coast between AD 100 and 850.
From the size of the tomb, researchers believe it belongs to a child, and the quantity and quality of the objects link it to a high-status group from the later periods of this culture.
The director of the Huacas de Moche Archaeological Project, Carlos Rengifo, explained that the excavation is not yet complete and that among the pieces those depicting captives on their way to a ritual stand out. "Some 32 vessels have been found so far. We have not finished yet; we are in the midst of the excavation," he said.
A vessel also appeared in the tomb with a deity in high relief bearing human and bird features, which seems to form a scene of three figures inside a possible temple; in addition, there were skulls and limbs of camelids, the family that includes the llama and the alpaca.
According to the archaeologist, this type of burial did not depend on age, as both adults and children could receive very high-quality vessels as offerings.
Rengifo deemed it exceptional that the child was buried with a metal mask and fine ceramics, a sign that he came from a privileged sector of Mochica society. "This is a person who belonged to a family or social group that stood out within what was already an urban centre and a prosperous city of the 6th or 7th century AD," he stated.
The initial results of the find were presented to the rector of the National University of Trujillo, Hermes Sifuentes, during a day dedicated to showing the progress of the research at the complex.
The Uhle Platform, studied since the late 19th century, has revealed other tombs of the Mochica elite, and the project, led by that university since 1991, will continue with the excavation and conservation of the artefacts."

<media:keywords>ruptly</media:keywords>
Targeted in Tel Aviv - 'Go back to Gaza' billboards attack NYC mayor Mamdani amid escalating feud with Netanyahu

Targeted in Tel Aviv - 'Go back to Gaza' billboards attack NYC mayor Mamdani amid escalating feud with Netanyahu

"Billboards telling New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to 'go back to Gaza' appeared in Tel Aviv, as his public clash with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Gaza deepened.
Footage filmed on Wednesday shows an Israeli flag alongside the message: "Mamdani, go back to Gaza. New York belongs to the American people."
Mamdani was born in Uganda, moved to New York at age seven, and became a US citizen in 2018. He has no known family ties to Gaza.
The billboards follow months of exchanges between Mamdani and Netanyahu over Israel's military operations in Gaza.
Ahead of Netanyahu's visit to New York for the UN General Assembly, Mamdani called for his arrest under an International Criminal Court warrant, though enforcement required federal authority. He then called for protests against the Israeli leader's visit, which drew thousands of demonstrators.
Netanyahu's Likud party previously featured Mamdani on a Tel Aviv election billboard alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, with the message: "They want Netanyahu to lose. Don't let them win."
Netanyahu also called Mamdani 'the anti-Semitic mayor of New York' and accused him of spreading lies about Israel's operations in Gaza. Mamdani has rejected accusations that his criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic, maintaining that his objections are directed at Israeli government policy.
On Wednesday, Mamdani described Israel's actions in Gaza as an 'ongoing genocide'. Last week, his administration unveiled New York City's first municipal strategy to combat antisemitism, including funding for hate-crime prevention, synagogue security and Holocaust education."

<media:keywords>ruptly</media:keywords>
'No to the Zionist occupation in Gaza' - Pro-Palestinian protesters march in Bogota demanding a 'halt to the genocide'

'No to the Zionist occupation in Gaza' - Pro-Palestinian protesters march in Bogota demanding a 'halt to the genocide'

"Hundreds of people marched in Bogota on Wednesday to denounce what they described as an Israeli 'genocide' against the Palestinian people, in a protest held three years after the Hamas attack in southern Israel.
Footage shows demonstrators marching through the streets with a large Palestinian flag and placards against the Israeli offensive in Gaza, with messages such as 'Stop the genocide', 'No to the Zionist occupation of Gaza' and 'In a genocide, remaining "neutral" is to support it'. The march began outside the Embassy of Israel and proceeded to the Palestinian diplomatic mission.
"We are today at the Embassy of Israel, the genocidal state that has perpetrated this barbarity for more than 20 years against the Palestinian people and which has intensified over the last 3 years," said demonstrator Daniela Rodriguez.
Israel's ambassador to Colombia, Vivian Aisen, reported damage in the vicinity of the diplomatic mission on X and referred to the group of demonstrators as a 'mob'. She also stated that destroying public space 'is vandalism'.
The mobilisation took place amid the process of re-establishing diplomatic relations between Colombia and Israel under the government of President Abelardo de la Espriella, who took office in August.
His predecessor, Gustavo Petro (2022–2026), was a strong critic of the Israeli offensive in Gaza and even compared the situation of the Palestinian population to that of Jews in Nazi concentration camps.
On Wednesday, Petro accused the US government of using the Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) list to 'prevent' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from being tried as a 'genocidal'.
Since the start of the Israeli offensive in October 2023 following the Hamas attacks, at least 74,250 Palestinians have been killed and another 175,278 wounded in the Gaza Strip, according to local media reports. "When the oil comes down, the oil comes down as soon as we finish off with Iran," he told them. "It's a war that's been won from the standpoint of what we have to do. No nuclear weapons for Iran."

Talks between the US and Iran have appeared to stall in recent weeks - with Washington turning to economic pressure under 'Operation Economic Outcast' with sanctions.

Tehran has said the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Washington accepts its latest plan to reopen it - which Trump publicly rejected. The US blockade of Iran's ports also remains in place. At the weekend, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there was 'no military solution'.

At a press conference at the Torre Tagle Palace in Lima, Espa said the achievement was possible thanks to the joint work of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Culture, the authorities and institutions of the countries involved, as well as the decision of citizens who, through voluntary returns, contributed to the return of these items.
"The items returning to Peru today are a sample of the extraordinary richness and diversity of our cultural heritage. Among them are documents, historical-artistic works, archaeological objects, ceramics, textiles from various pre-Hispanic cultures," he said.
Among the repatriated pieces, he highlighted the painting 'The Transit of Saint Joseph' and the manuscript 'Ancient Peruvian Art of the National Museum', a work he described as of "exceptional importance" for Peru's documentary heritage.
"This is the largest handover carried out during the current year (...) Each of these items bears witness to the societies, knowledge and cultural expressions that are part of our history," he said, explaining that the return of the pieces makes it possible to recover part of the national memory so that it can be "preserved, studied and passed on".
Espa noted that this effort takes on particular significance in the face of the illicit trafficking of cultural property, which he described as a "threat to the heritage of peoples" and linked its perpetration to transnational criminal organisations."
